Three Year Old Dominates Kashmir Open Chess Tournament

SRINAGAR: Hoor Fatima, a three-year-old chess prodigy, has made history as the youngest champion of the 2nd Kashmir Open International FIDE Rating Chess Tournament. The tournament, organised by The Kashmir Chess Club and held at the Indoor Sports Complex, Polo Ground in Srinagar (J&K), began on June 10 and concluded on Thursday.

With participation from 120 players hailing from various parts of India, including an international player from Russia, Hoor’s victory is nothing short of extraordinary.

In a tournament where experienced players from around the world gathered, Hoor Fatima defied all expectations by participating. Her triumph at such a young age sends a powerful message of inspiration and resilience to aspiring chess players across Kashmir and beyond.

Her parents, Bilal Ahmad and Salam Ashai, recognize the dual importance of education and chess in shaping well-rounded individuals. The tournament is being conducted according to the laws of Chess set by the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) and follows the FIDE Swiss System with nine rounds. Khalid Amin Gojwari is the tournament director, and Comrade Parvez was the Chief Organiser of the tournament and also serves as the Secretary of The Kashmir Chess Club, Srinagar. FA Pavan K. Rathi is the Chief Arbiter.
