Lal Singh Condemns Shifting Of HC To Raika Hill

SRINAGAR: Former Forest Minister and Chairman of DSSP, Chowdhry Lal Singh, has expressed deep concern regarding the proposed shifting of the HC Complex to the Raika Forest cover. He emphasises that these forests serve as the lungs of the entire Jammu city, and any attempt to disturb them would have severe consequences for the health of present and future generations.

During his tenure as Forest Minister, similar proposals were presented to him, but he immediately rejected them due to the crucial role the forest cover plays in maintaining ecological balance for both humans and animals.

Singh questions the government’s irresponsible behavior and unnecessary burden on the state’s finances. He points out that the current HC has ample space to accommodate additional complexes for the judiciary, benefiting both lawyers and their clients.

He suggests that instead of wasting resources on shifting the complex, the government should focus on improving connectivity by developing and widening existing roads, such as the route through Manda zoo. Additionally, constructing flyovers could alleviate traffic congestion and provide direct access for citizens.

Singh extends his wholehearted support to the protesters, including lawyers and members of the Civil Society. He appeals to the authorities to reconsider their decision, warning that DSSP will take to the streets if necessary. Singh urges his party members to strongly oppose any such government move and calls on the Civil Society of Jammu to identify the self-serving individuals in power who are neglecting public welfare. He indirectly criticizes the leadership of the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory for their silence on this matter, highlighting the Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan party’s firm opposition to the proposed shifting.
