SRINAGAR: Renowned Islamic scholar Baji Muzzaffar Hussain, known in social circles as Baji Sahab, of Kalakote Rajouri, passed away after a prolonged illness on Sunday evening. He was 60.
A close relative of Baji Muzaffar Hussain said that ‘Baji Sahab’ died of a protracted illness at his home in Kalakote Rajouri. “He had been unwell for a considerable period of time and eventually passed away this evening,” the relative told GNS.
The funeral prayer for the departed soul is scheduled to be held at his ancestral village in Kalakote Rajouri after the noon (Zuhr) prayers on Monday.
Baji Hussain, known for his religious expertise and oratory skills, also had affiliations with politics for quite some time and was seen with Peoples Democratic Party Founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and incumbent PDP Chairperson Mehbooba Mufti on several occasions.
Several political leaders, including Peoples Democratic Party Chairperson Mehooba Mufti and Apni Party Patron Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, expressed their grief and sorrow over the demise of Baji Hussain and extended their condolences to the bereaved family.
Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, PDP Chairperson Mehooba Mufti wrote: “Deeply saddened to hear about the sad and sudden demise of Baji Syed Muzaffar Shah Sahab of Kalakote. He was a great spiritual leader, and I feel fortunate to have known him. Condolences to his family and well-wishers. May God grant him the highest place in Jannat (sic.).”
In his message, Apni Party Patron Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari wrote on Twitter: “Deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Baji Muzaffer Hussain of Broi – Kalakote. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and his loved ones, especially to his close relative and our JKAP’s District President Rajouri, Syed Manzoor Bukhari Sahab, and to his nephew and our district president Bandipora, Syed Shafaat Qazmi Sahab, during these tough times. The legacy of Shah Sahab will forever be remembered and cherished. May his soul find eternal peace, and may the bereaved family find strength in this hour of grief (sic.).”
Many other people have also expressed their grief over the demise of Baji Hussain and unequivocally termed it a great loss to J&K and especially to Rajouri district. (GNS)
