SRINAGAR: “Peace won’t return to J&K as long as the BJP is in power at the Centre,” said Omar Abdullah on Monday, adding that the BJP would have to wait until the 2024 elections to determine whether the opposition meeting in Patna was a mere photo opportunity or not.
The former Chief Minister and JKNC vice president made these remarks while speaking to reporters in Anantnag.
Abdullah emphasised that the reaction of the Home Minister, considered the second most powerful leader in India, to the meeting clearly demonstrates its significance.
He stated, “Militancy has reemerged in areas where the government was planning to remove AFSPA in 2014. Today, you can find militancy in every part of Kashmir, including Srinagar. The recent incidents in Rajouri and Poonch are proof that militancy has resurfaced in areas where it was previously absent. It will not be eradicated as long as the BJP remains in power.”
He also announced that the JKNC would participate in all upcoming elections and strive for victory, while commenting on the party’s decision to boycott the last panchayat elections. Abdullah demanded a thorough investigation into the Pulwama incident, stating that it was evident and should be taken seriously as the imam would not lie. He further emphasised that the incident occurred in two mosques, not just one, and urged the government to investigate the matter and take strict action against those involved. (KNO)
