SRINAGAR: Sanjeev Gupta, a former district and sessions judge, has resigned as a member of the Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission after his appointment as a member of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT).
The J&K Government announced on Monday that Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has accepted the resignation of Sanjeev Gupta as a member of the Public Service Commission.
The government stated, “In exercise of powers conferred by Clause (2) of Article 316 of the Constitution of India, read with Section 93 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act 2019 and S.O. 3937 (E) dated 31 October 2019, read with the Order issued in terms of sub-clause (i) of clause (c) of the Proclamation issued by the President dated 31st October 2019, the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is pleased to accept the resignation of Mr. Sanjeev Gupta, Member, Public Service Commission for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, with effect from 05.09.2023,” according to a notification issued by the General Administration Department.
Gupta was appointed as a member of the PSC in April of this year. He had retired as the Registrar of the J&K High Court on January 31, 2023. During his distinguished career in the judiciary, which began with his appointment as Munsiff/Judicial Magistrate 1st Class in Gool in 1995, he served in various capacities.
He served as Munsiff in Chenani until 1998, was promoted to Sub-Judge in 1998, and served at various places including Batote, Jammu, Samba, and Leh, Ladakh as Sub-Judge (Chief Judicial Magistrate). He was promoted to the position of District and Sessions Judge in May 2008 and served as a Special Judge Anti-Corruption three times in Jammu and once in Srinagar. (KNO)
