Security Forces Uncover Two IEDs In Handwara Forests

SRINAGAR: Police on Monday claimed to have recovered two Improvised Explosive Device in Wodhpura area of North Kashmir’s Handwara district.

In a statement, the police mentioned that Army, in a joint operation with Handwara Police, discovered two IEDs from the Wodhpura Ridge near NH 701 in the early morning of 17th July 2023.

Acting on information from a reliable source, Army and Handwara Police initiated a swift and well-coordinated Search and Destruction Operation (SADO) in the Wodhpura Forest during the early hours today.

The spokesperson further stated that the operation resulted in the recovery of two sophisticated IEDs, weighing approximately 5 and 7 kilograms, concealed in the jungle area. The team promptly cordoned off the area and implemented adequate security measures.

The positive identification of the IEDs was carried out by the Indian Army’s highly trained Explosive Detection Team, equipped with explosive detectors and an Army dog, the spokesperson added.

Furthermore, the Bomb Disposal team conducted a controlled detonation of the IEDs, rendering them safe. Indian Army personnel and Handwara Police then resumed a thorough search operation in the general area of the Wodhpura Forest, looking for any additional IEDs or hiding militants. No loss of life or property was reported. The joint action by the security forces prevented a major incident in the area, as stated in the press release. (GNS)
