SRINAGAR: With maximum temperatures remaining 1-2 degrees Celsius above normal across most places in Jammu and Kashmir, the weather department indicated on Monday that there would be no significant relief from the prevailing hot and humid weather conditions over the coming days.
“Today, the maximum temperature stayed 1-2 degrees Celsius above the normal range in most parts of J&K. Similar conditions are anticipated for the next 2-3 days. Notable relief from the ongoing hot and humid conditions is not expected,” conveyed a meteorological department official based here to GNS.
“From 16th to 22nd August, predominantly hot, humid, and dry weather is projected for Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.
However, he mentioned that there is a possibility of isolated instances of rain or thundershowers towards the late afternoon and evening during this period, albeit with relatively lower chances.
In terms of temperature, he reported that Srinagar recorded a maximum of 31.0 degrees Celsius, surpassing the summer capital’s normal level by 1.3 degrees Celsius.
For Qazigund, the official noted a high of 31.0 degrees Celsius, exceeding the average by 2.8 degrees Celsius for this gateway town of the Kashmir Valley.
In the renowned tourist destination of Pahalgam, the thermometer reached a maximum of 27.0 degrees Celsius, which was 1.4 degrees Celsius above the usual for this popular resort situated in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
As for Kupwara town, the official stated that the maximum temperature reached 31.9 degrees Celsius, going 1.3 degrees Celsius beyond the average for the North Kashmir region.
The recorded maximum temperature for Kokernag was 30.5 degrees Celsius, marking an increase of 3.1 degrees Celsius from the usual level for this locality, according to the officials.
Gulmarg, the globally acclaimed skiing resort in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, experienced a maximum of 20.0 degrees Celsius, indicating a deviation of 0.8 degrees Celsius below the normal, he elaborated.
Jammu, serving as the winter capital of J&K, saw the maximum temperature hit 34.3 degrees Celsius, going 1.0 degree Celsius above the normal, as reported by the official.
The official further informed that Banihal registered a maximum of 30.0 degrees Celsius, Batote recorded 26.3 degrees Celsius, Katra noted 31.6 degrees Celsius, and Bhaderwah reached 26.7 degrees Celsius. (GNS)
