SRINAGAR: Amidst the forecast for mainly dry weather with the possibility of isolated light rain and thunderstorms over Jammu and Kashmir in the next 24 hours, the minimum temperature dropped and settled below normal in J&K, except for Pahalgam, on Saturday.
A meteorological department official here informed that no significant changes in the weather were expected for the following two days as well. In fact, he mentioned that mainly dry weather with isolated showers is expected until 4 June, followed by fairly widespread to widespread rains for a few days.
According to him, Srinagar recorded a low of 16.9°C compared to 18.3°C on the previous night, which was 0.2°C below normal for the summer capital.
Qazigund, he stated, recorded a low of 14.2°C against 16.6°C on the previous night, which was 1.3°C below normal for the gateway town of the Kashmir Valley.
Pahalgam, he noted, recorded a low of 10.8°C against 11.2°C on the previous night, which was the normal temperature for the famous tourist resort in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
In Kupwara town, he said, the temperature settled at 15.2°C compared to 15.7°C on the previous night, which was 0.3°C below normal for the northern Kashmir region.
The officials stated that Kokernag recorded a low of 16.3°C against 16.7°C on the previous night, which was 1.4°C above normal for the location.
For Gulmarg, a world-famous skiing resort in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he mentioned that the temperature dropped to 11.0°C from 12.2°C on the previous night, which was 0.1°C above normal.
Regarding Jammu, he said that the temperature recorded a low of 24.1°C compared to 27.1°C on the previous night, which was 1.5°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital.
Banihal recorded a low of 14.1°C (2.2°C below normal), Batote 16.1°C (1.4°C below normal), Katra 20.5°C (1.5°C below normal), and Bhaderwah 14.5°C (1.5°C below normal). Additionally, Leh in Ladakh recorded a low of 9.0°C, the official added. (GNS)
