SRINAGAR: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and President of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti, stated on Friday that the people of Jammu should join forces with Kashmir, as Leh did with Kargil, to safeguard their rights. She emphasised that while elections are important, ensuring the protection of people’s rights holds greater significance for her.
“Elections are important, but the rights and powers of the people, which are their constitutional rights and are being taken away, are more important for me,” she expressed.
Mehbooba stated, “The people of Leh and Kargil made New Delhi bow down before them. The BJP has created divisions, and the people from both Kashmir and Jammu should unite to bridge those gaps.”
Mufti conveyed her message that “the BJP is exploiting them” and highlighted that the PDP is the “best platform that always advocates for the genuine interests” of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Many journalists and religious leaders are in jail. Moulana Rehmatullah Qasmi has been summoned by the NIA; there are no fundamental rights,” she further added.
Mehbooba mentioned that during her tenure, she ensured the establishment of equal AIIMS institutions, smart cities, and medical colleges in both regions of Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing her impartial approach towards all regions.
“They want to create chaos, and my effort is to encourage more and more people from Jammu to join the PDP and unite with Kashmir, just as Leh and Kargil have done, to address our issues,” she stated.
She also highlighted various new projects initiated in Jammu and Kashmir during her tenure, such as smart cities, AIIMS, and medical colleges.
“If the nation of ‘Gandhi’ is to be saved from becoming the nation of ‘Ghodse’ and from destruction, there is no other way than to unite,” she concluded. (KNO)
