SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha graced the final match of the Kashmir Women Cricket League in Srinagar, a remarkable event celebrating the prowess and determination of women athletes from across the region. The final showdown saw the Anantnag Rebels and the Budgam Strikers vying for the championship title.
The tournament, hosted under the aegis of Chinar Corps, witnessed the participation of 12 women cricket teams hailing from various corners of the picturesque Kashmir Division. Notably, the esteemed presence of International Cricketer and Former Captain of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team, Padma Shri Mithali Raj, added an extra layer of inspiration to the day’s festivities.
The Lieutenant Governor extended his warm congratulations to all participants, especially the victors of the Women’s Cricket League, recognising their dedication and hard work. The event showcased the true potential of women in sports and celebrated their achievements in a domain where they have been consistently proving their mettle.
Applauding the initiative taken by Chinar Corps, the Lieutenant Governor underscored its role in elevating the spirits of women and empowering them through sports. “The daughters of Jammu and Kashmir are shining in different sectors despite many obstacles and challenges. They are breaking the glass ceiling and advancing their position in agriculture, industries, IT, and startups. Even in the sports arena, they have proved to be second to none,” remarked the Lt Governor, emphasising the remarkable strides that women in the region are making across various fields.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting women in Jammu and Kashmir, the Lt Governor reiterated that women-led development remains a top priority. The Lt Governor stressed that the socio-economic development policy is deeply rooted in gender equality, and concerted efforts have been made to empower women and provide them with equal opportunities across all sectors.
Celebrating the significant role of women in nation-building, the Lt Governor drew attention to the leadership demonstrated by women scientists in the Chandrayaan-3 mission, setting a remarkable precedent for others to follow.
Promising world-class sports infrastructure and mentorship to nurture young talents, the Lt Governor expressed optimism in the rise of a new sports culture in Jammu and Kashmir. The recent successes of women players on national and international stages have ignited hopes, fuelling the administration’s resolve to transform the region into a sporting powerhouse.
